Title: Swarm Computing : new opportunities at the edge of the network
It is now feasible for consumers to buy inexpensive but fully-featured computing devices that can be installed at home and accessed remotely thanks to residential Internet connection. Such a simple "self-hosting" can be an alternative to traditional cloud providers, especially for privacy-conscious users. We discuss in this talk how a community of users can pool their devices in order to create a participatory infrastructure and how to leverage such infrastructure to host services and data.
Bruno Stévant is a teaching and research assistant in the french engineer school IMT Atlantique. He participated on various research projects on topics like IPv6, Internet of Things and service architectures. He is active in academic communities on both networks technologies and distributed systems. He has a particular interest on open source software and system interoperability using open standards. His current research subjects include the convergence of Cloud and IoT in the Edge Computing paradigm.
