ICSS: Intent-Based Cloud Security System with Interface to Network Security Functions
Jaehoon (Paul) Jeong (Sungkyunkwan university, South Korea)
This talk introduces an Intent-Based Cloud Security System (ICSS) with Interface to Network Security Functions (I2NSF) that is the IETF standard framework and interfaces. This ICSS can support the translation of a security user's declarative intent on a required security service into a detailed imperative policy for Network Security Functions (NSFs) in the form of Virtual Network Function (VNF) or Cloud-Native Network Function (CNF). It can also support closed-loop security services through the collection and analysis of monitoring data from NSFs. Thus, the ICSS can provide flexible and efficient security services to the customers in cloud-based network environments such as 5G networks and Internet of Things (IoT) networks. The design and implementation of the ICSS is based on the framework and data models of the IETF I2NSF. Its architecture is an enhanced version of the I2NSF framework for Intent-Based Networking (IBN) for intelligent security services. Through experiments, it is shown that the proposed ICSS can cope with various security attacks autonomously and efficiently in the manner of intent-based security management.
Dr. Jaehoon (Paul) Jeong has been an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) since September in 2012. He got a Ph.D degree from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities in December 2009. His Ph.D advisors were Prof. David H.C. Du and Prof. Tian He. He got an MS degree from the School of Computer Science and Engineering at Seoul National University in 2001. His MS advisor was Prof. Yanghee Choi. He got a BS degree from the Department of Information Engineering at Sungkyunkwan University in 1999. Dr. Jeong worked for Brocade Communications Systems as a software engineer from January in 2010 to July in 2012. Before his Ph.D study, he worked for Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) as a member of research staff from February in 2001 to August in 2004. He has participated in the Internet Standardization for IPv6 Host DNS Configuration, Interface to Network Security Functions (I2NSF), IPv6 Wireless Access in Vehicular Environments (IPWAVE), and Intent-Based Networking (IBN) in Network Management Research Group (NMRG) in the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) since 2002. His research interests include Intent-Based Networking (IBN), Internet of Things (IoT), Cloud Security Service Systems, Vehicular Networks, Navigation Systems, and Indoor Localization.
